It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Hugh Mason, in his 90th year. We are thankful he passed peacefully in his sleep with his beloved wife Patt by his side.
Hugh is survived by his wife of 67 years, Patt (nee Raney), loving father to daughters Sharyll & Shelley and son Gregg. Hugh shared his love with son in law Kevin Meldrum and daughter in law Monique (nee Vossen). He was a very proud grandfather of Chanel (John), Brett (Alexandra), Caressa, Jacob (Jessica) and Logan. Hugh cherished his four great grandchildren Maddy & Ryan, Hughie & Kenzie.
Hugh is also survived by brothers in law Lynn Farrell, David Raney and sister in law Margaret Raney. Fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews and friends.
Hugh was the son of the late Robert “Bert” and Ann Mason. He was predeceased by siblings Kenneth Mason and his wife Lois, sister Ruby Walden & her husband Ray and sister Marjorie Farrell. Also predeceased by his in-laws Doug Raney and Marlene Jones (Raney).
Hugh lived a life full of kindness, strength, integrity and immense love for his family. As a young man, Hugh learned to work hard on the 4th generation family farm in Huron Kinloss. He was an enthusiast of all sports however baseball was his one true sport. He played catcher through his baseball playing years, even continuing to play weekly into his 80th year. Some of Hugh’s most impactful contributions centered around coaching local baseball teams as well as many years behind the plate umpiring.
In his younger years, Hugh was dedicated to being involved in his community through countless hours volunteering. As a result he was honoured as a recipient of the Ontario Citizenship Award.
Hugh spent 17 years as the leader of the local 4-H beef calf club. He was a member and past president of the Ripley Agricultural Society, as well as a Huron Kinloss councillor, past Deputy Reeve and co-ordinator of the local Heart & Stroke Foundation.
Hugh was known for his wonderful sense of humour. He loved to tell a good story or joke and was guilty of playing a few good practical jokes too! In his spare time he enjoyed playing a game of cards, bridge quickly became a favourite.
As a husband, father, grandfather, brother & friend, Hugh left a permanent mark etched on our hearts and will forever be missed.
In life he loved, in heaven he rests.
Public visitation will be held at the MacKenzie & McCreath Funeral Home, Ripley, on Thursday March 5, 2026 from 2-4 & 7-9 PM followed by a private memorial service on Friday March 6, 2026. There's no finer man than Uncle Hugh. I have so much respect and admiration for him as did my father. He had an air of stoic, quiet strength and great kindness. He accomplished so much in his life, more than most men, with his work, the farm and his community involvement.. Most importantly, he raised a great family, lived to see great-grand-children, and remained married to Aunt Patt, the woman he loved for many, many years. Those who love him know he was always there for them and that he loved them very much - nothing better can be said about any man than that.
God rest your soul in Peace Uncle Hugh and God bless your family, give them comfort and give them strength.
My family and I offer our sincere condolences to Patt and her family, extended family, relatives, friends, neighbours and all those who knew Hugh. I had the pleasure getting to know Hugh and helping him and Patt in Ripley. His memory will live on forever in our hearts. Will miss you Hugh!

We are sorry to learn of Uncle Hugh's passing. We have many fond memories of visits to the farm and lake as well as his visits to the East Coast. Uncle Hugh was the life of any party and had a great way of drawing people to him; making everyone feel included. His dedication to his wife and family was inspirational, as was his devotion to baseball, playing into his 80's. His stories and laugh will be dearly missed. He was an original. Sending love to Aunt Patt, Sharyll, Shelley, Gregg and family.
Patt and family., we send our deepest condolences to all of you at this sad time for everyone. May your many treasured memories bring comfort in the days ahead. Sincerely Gail and Brian Johnson

Dad, my world will never be the same without you in it. I miss you so very much. You were the very best husband, father, father in law, grandfather and GGpa. You loved us all with all your heart and for that we thank you. Your love and influence has made us who we are. I’m sure you have already figured out how to watch or play baseball in heaven. Our memories of you will remain forever. Rest in heavenly peace my dear dad. Till we meet again ♥️.
